BRAD MIRMAN

NATIONAL PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER (DIVEMASTER) BOARD AND STAFF MEMBER

Founder and National President of Dive Warriors,  Brad Mirman is veteran screenwriter and director who has over 18 films produced.   He has been diving since 1973 and is a PADI / HSA certified Divemaster.  Working less and diving more these days Brad wanted to make the sport he loves available to those men and women who have given so much in the defense of our country by offering them the chance to dive in warm- water locations and share the experience with other disabled veterans.

JONATHAN READER

VICE PRESIDENT (DIVEMASTER) BOARD MEMBER

Jonathan Reader served in the U.S. Army from 1993-2004, as a combat engineer and as a special agent.  He went on to a career as a special agent for the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General and formerly the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC) for a combined total of 13 years conducting federal investigations.  He also served as a primary hostage negotiator, primary evidence custodian and firearms instructor throughout his career.  He began diving in 2016 and is a dive master.

SEAN HOPSON

VICE PRESIDENT (INSTRUCTOR) BOARD AND STAFF MEMBER

Sean Hopson is a disabled combat veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps from 1998-2004. He is a SSI instructor and holds multiple instructor certifications: Drysuit, Night & Limited Visibility, Perfect Buoyancy, Dive Guide, Diver Stress & Rescue, Enriched Nitrox, and Open Water. He is certified through Handicapped SCUBA Association as an HSA instructor. With these acquired skill sets and his love and passion for his fellow brother and sister in arms makes him uniquely qualified to serve as a Dive Warriors Board member.

KELLY MCCUMISKY

VICE PRESIDENT (DIVEMASTER) BOARD AND STAFF MEMBER

Kelly Mccumisky was born in Encino, Cailfornia. She served in the Air Force from 1978 – 1981 and was stationed with Det 8 Air Rescue where she sustained a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Suffering from chronic pain she discovered Scuba Diving 8 years ago was surprised to find on her very first dive that being weightless in the water allowed her to do everything any able-bodied person could do. It also completely removed her pain and over the years diving has played a large part in her pain management. . Kelly has been with Dive Warriors since their very first dive and since then has moved up from an Advanced Diver to a Divemaster and is on tract to becoming an instructor. Her love of diving and dedication to disabled veterans makes her perfect board member.

SECRETARY

Stacy Colton brings a background of business and property management behind her. She has raised three kids and once they were grown she started looking for an organization that helps people with disabilities. Stacy has always been grateful for our veterans and is excited for the opportunity to support them in this way.

STAFF MEMBER

Melvin Pasley is a disabled Iraq (2006-2007) veteran who served in the US Army and Army Reserve from 1972 – 2008.  He is a NAUI SCUBA Instructor with additional certification from the Handicapped SCUBA Association International (HSA) as an adaptive SCUBA Instructor. Qualified to  teach Basic Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Drysuit, Night Diving, Photography, Rescue, Enriched Nitrox and HSA Dive Buddy.. Melvin lives in Lakewood California with is wife of 44 years Jane, just 2 miles from his childhood home and near his 4 grandsons and 2 married daughters.

Taylor Davis was born and raised in Ventura, California. He served in the Marine Corps from 2004 to 2008, deployed to Iraq three times, and is a disabled combat veteran. He started diving in 2012 and discovered it helped with PTSD. He then had the goal of becoming an instructor and sharing his passion with other disabled veterans. He became a NAUI instructor in 2016 and found out about Dive Warriors from a sticker on a dive boat. He has dove many places around the world but his favorite is the northern Channel Islands.

Dae Choi is a United States Army veteran and served as a logistical specialist from 1998-2004. He started diving after returning home from deployment and fell in love with the beauty, colors, and marine life of the underwater world. He became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and Emergency First Response Instructor in 2010 and has taught in California, Bahamas, and South Korea.  He is dedicated to helping veterans find peace and freedom through scuba diving.

ELLIOT RUIZ

(INSTRUCTOR)
STAFF MEMBER

Elliot Ruiz is a Marine and a two-time Purple Heart recipient. After his training, he served with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. In January of 2003 at the age of 17, he became one of the youngest Marines deployed to Iraq as part of the 1st Marine Division. On April 13, 2003 Ruiz was wounded when his unit rescued 7 POWs, and had to undergo 14 surgeries on his back and leg. Today, Ruiz is committed to staying active, and supporting other veterans. Ruiz found scuba to be therapeutic and wanted to help other veterans get in the water and share his experience.

JONATHAN BURNETT

PRESIDENT FLORIDA CHAPTER (DIVEMASTER)

SFC Jonathan Burnett, a California native, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1997, as an 11B (Infantryman). He was medically retired from the armed forces in December 2015. During his career, SFC Burnett held various leadership positions such as squad leader, platoon sergeant, acting first sergeant, and senior enlisted adviser to various commanders. His primary specialties were Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder operations. His civilian education includes a Doctorate in Theology, 3 Master of Science degrees, and is currently a graduate student at Biola University. Jonathan began diving in 1998 and holds the professional rating of DiveMaster. He hopes to dedicate the rest of his life to veterans both in and out of the water.
